What a Level 2 Apprenticeship Really Looks Like

Starting an apprenticeship is a big step, especially for young people transitioning from school into the workplace. Harvey Smith, a Level 2 apprentice demonstrates how determination, consistency, and the right support can turn an apprenticeship into a life-changing experience.

From the very beginning, Harvey described his journey as rewarding and positive. The onboarding process was smooth and supportive, helping him feel confident about what to expect. Meeting his tutors early, including Ben and Naomi, provided clarity and reassurance, making the shift into a new working and learning environment far easier.

Harvey quickly adapted to the programme’s structure. The intuitive learning platforms, first OneFile and later Maytas, allowed him to manage his coursework efficiently. He highlighted how the structured units flowed logically, giving him clear direction and making the process of learning practical skills enjoyable. As he settled in, Harvey’s confidence and independence grew, and he described his apprenticeship as “hands-on and forward moving.” The ability to immediately apply theory to his role in the workplace made the learning feel meaningful and engaging.

One of the key aspects of Harvey’s success was his proactive communication and strong relationships with tutors and workplace mentors, including Liam, Sam, and Elliot. Regular check-ins and personalised feedback kept him motivated and on track. Harvey explained how asking for help whenever he encountered challenges was crucial to maintaining progress:

“If I was struggling, I just asked. It’s not hard to get it out there and speak. That’s how I overcame things.”

Time management was another skill Harvey developed during his apprenticeship. Balancing work responsibilities, such as running Breakfast Club sessions, with his coursework required planning and commitment. He even used the local library between shifts to complete assignments, showing dedication and determination to succeed.

The results of Harvey’s hard work speak for themselves. He successfully completed all elements of his Level 2 apprenticeship, including Functional Skills in English and Maths. Passing English on the first attempt and achieving Maths soon after, Harvey proved that focus and perseverance pay off. Positive feedback from mentors and colleagues also boosted his confidence, reinforcing the value of his contributions in the workplace.

The apprenticeship has not only provided Harvey with practical skills but has also helped him grow personally and professionally. He now demonstrates greater independence, self-awareness, and confidence, setting the foundation for continued career progression. Looking ahead, Harvey has ambitious plans, including completing his England Boxing qualification and exploring pathways to Level 3 Personal Trainer or Level 4 Sports Coach apprenticeships. Discussions with company directors about progression opportunities show that the apprenticeship has opened doors for real growth and advancement.

Harvey also shared advice for future apprentices: consistency, communication, and focus are essential. He encourages new learners to embrace the process, make use of support, and stay motivated by thinking about the bigger picture:

“Each step of the way, you can taste the finishing line, use that as your motivation.”

Ben, Harvey’s assessor, commented on his exceptional progress: “Harvey has demonstrated a strong work ethic, professionalism, and adaptability. His growth in both practical and academic areas is a testament to his dedication. He leaves the programme with the skills, confidence, and mindset needed to succeed in his career.”

Harvey’s journey highlights why Educationwise apprenticeships are so impactful. With structured, practical learning, supportive tutors, and opportunities to apply skills in real-world settings, apprentices gain the confidence and expertise to excel. For young people ready to take the next step in their career, an Educationwise apprenticeship is a launchpad for long-term success.
