The CMI Level 5 Award in Management and Leadership is designed for practising middle managers and leaders operating at operations, division, departmental or specialist level. Learner Journey
The qualification is delivered flexibly through a remote learning platform, allowing learners to study at their own pace and fit the programme around the demands of a busy management role. It is suitable for both experienced managers looking to formalise and develop their practice and those stepping up into middle management for the first time.
The programme is focused on developing a thorough understanding of management and leadership within organisational contexts. Learners will explore the principles of management and leadership, the impact of governance, organisational structures and values, leadership and management theories and styles, communication and stakeholder management approaches, professional behaviours required for effective leadership, and how to build positive and supportive workplace cultures. Content is practical and applied throughout, with a focus on developing skills that can be used immediately in the workplace.
Learners are assessed through practical, assignment-based activities linked to real workplace leadership and management practice, including written assignments and reports, reflective activities and evaluations, case study analysis, work-based leadership activities, professional discussions and presentations where appropriate and agreed between the learner and tutor. There are no formal exams or timed tests.
