Course Summary

The CMI Level 5 Award in Management and Leadership is designed for practising middle managers and leaders operating at operations, division, departmental or specialist level. If you are accountable to a senior manager or business owner and responsible for leading individuals and teams to deliver against organisational strategy, this qualification gives you the knowledge, credibility and professional recognition to do that effectively.

Pitched at a standard that reflects the real demands of middle management, the programme develops the strategic and operational skills that leaders at this level rely on. From managing change and delivering operational plans to handling finances and building stakeholder relationships, the content is grounded in genuine management practice and designed to be applied directly to your role.

On completion, learners who progress to the Certificate or Diploma level are awarded Chartered Manager status, one of the most respected professional credentials available to managers and leaders in the UK and a clear marker of management excellence.

Learner Journey

The qualification is delivered flexibly through a remote learning platform, allowing learners to study at their own pace and fit the programme around the demands of a busy management role. It is suitable for both experienced managers looking to formalise and develop their practice and those stepping up into middle management for the first time.

The curriculum covers seven core units that reflect the key responsibilities of management and leadership at this level. The programme also covers project management, leading and managing change, creating and delivering operational plans and managing finance, giving learners a thorough and well-rounded grounding in what effective middle management looks like in practice.

Content is practical and applied throughout, with a focus on developing skills that can be used immediately in the workplace. Learners complete activities and tasks rooted in real management scenarios, building the confidence and capability to lead with greater clarity, purpose and impact.
