For as long as I have worked in education, I have believed that this sector is about so much more than qualifications, funding rules, targets and outcomes. At its heart, education is about people. It is about believing in potential, creating opportunities and helping someone see possibilities they may not have seen for themselves.

That is why I love what I do.

Like so many people who dedicate their careers to education, I have always been driven by the impact we can have on people’s lives. There is something incredibly powerful about watching someone grow in confidence, overcome a barrier, achieve something they once thought was out of reach, or take the next step towards the future they want.

Education is not just a job; it is a responsibility and a privilege.

Every day, across this sector, thousands of passionate people are working behind the scenes teachers, tutor, trainers, assessors, support teams, leaders, employers and partners all united by one purpose: to help people achieve more than they thought possible.

That shared passion is what makes education such a special sector to be part of.

We do not always see the immediate impact of what we do. Sometimes it is months or even years later when someone reflects on a moment, a conversation, a piece of encouragement or an opportunity that changed their direction. But those moments matter. They are the reason so many of us continue to do what we do.

And that is why education will always matter.

A final thought from me

I feel incredibly fortunate to lead an organisation that exists to create opportunities and change lives.

The impact of what we do is not always measured immediately. Sometimes it is seen in the confidence of a learner who finally believes in themselves, the employer who sees their workforce grow or the individual who takes a new direction because someone opened a door for them.
