Course Summary

The Level 3 Team Leader or Supervisor apprenticeship is designed for individuals in first-line management roles who are responsible for guiding and motivating teams to achieve business goals. Team leaders operate across all sectors including private, public and voluntary organisations, and play a key role in driving performance and managing day-to-day operations.

Apprentices will develop the skills to lead people, manage workloads, coordinate projects and build positive relationships both within their team and across departments. They will learn how to allocate resources effectively, solve problems, support team development and implement operational plans.

Team leaders are also responsible for setting expectations, promoting continuous improvement and contributing to a strong team culture that supports communication and accountability.

For a full list of the knowledge, skills and behaviours covered, please visit the Institute for Apprenticeships website.

Learner Journey

Over a 15-month programme, apprentices will gain the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to manage teams confidently and effectively. The course is delivered through weekly online sessions and quarterly face-to-face visits, guided by a dedicated tutor who provides ongoing one-to-one support.

Learners also have access to a full library of online resources to support their weekly off-the-job training. The programme blends practical experience with classroom-based learning, mentoring and off-site activities that reflect real-world leadership challenges.

At least 20 per cent of the apprenticeship must be completed as off-the-job training. These hours must be logged and evidenced with full guidance given during enrolment.

Assessment & Certification

To be eligible for the End-Point Assessment, learners must have achieved their English and Mathematics qualifications and submitted a portfolio of evidence. The EPA takes place over a three-month period and includes a presentation with questions and a professional discussion underpinned by the learner’s portfolio. Those who complete the programme will achieve the Level 3 Team Leader or Supervisor apprenticeship standard, a nationally recognised qualification that supports progression into middle management roles.
