The Level 2 Community Activator Coach Apprenticeship is designed for individuals passionate about making a positive impact through sport and physical activity. Community Activator Coaches play a vital role in helping people of all ages lead healthier, more active lifestyles. They support those who may be less active or face barriers to participation by planning and delivering inclusive sessions that meet the needs of their local area.
Working in partnership with organisations such as youth centres, local, sports clubs and health agencies, learners will develop and deliver programmes that encourage participation and improve wellbeing across a wide range of communities. In addition to running sessions, apprentices act as role models who adapt activities to suit people of different ages, backgrounds and abilities.
This role often requires flexible working, including evenings and weekends, to ensure sessions are accessible to the wider community.
For a full list of the knowledge, skills and behaviours covered, please visit the Institute for Apprenticeships website.
Over a 12-month programme, apprentices develop the knowledge, skills and needed to succeed as a Community Activator Coach. Delivery is blended, with weekly online learning sessions and quarterly face-to-face visits, supported by a dedicated tutor who provides one-to-one guidance throughout the course.
Learners have access to a wide range of online learning resources to support their progress and help meet the requirements of off-the-job training. The programme combines theory and practical experience through classroom sessions, mentoring and off-site visits.
At least 20 per cent of the programme must be completed as off-the-job training. This includes learning activities that take place outside of the learner’s normal work duties but contribute directly to their apprenticeship. These hours must be logged and evidenced, with expectations confirmed during enrolment.
Once learners have completed the training phase and passed through Gateway, they move on to the End-Point Assessment, which takes place over a three-month period.
The End-Point Assessment includes a practical observation, a presentation with questions and answers, a panel interview and a professional discussion based on the learner’s portfolio.
Successful apprentices will achieve the Level 2 Community Activator Coach apprenticeship standard, which is nationally recognised and can lead to further qualifications or employment opportunities in the sport and physical activity sector.
