Hire an Apprentice

Personal Trainer

Level 3

12 Month Programme

A Personal Trainer is a highly skilled fitness professional who works with clients one-to-one or in small groups to help them achieve their health and fitness goals. By hiring an apprentice in this role, your organisation can expand its fitness offering, enhance client satisfaction, and support more people in leading healthier lifestyles.

Personal Trainers design individualised exercise programmes, provide nutritional guidance, and offer lifestyle coaching to encourage sustainable behaviour change. They understand the boundaries of their expertise, referring clients to specialist professionals such as physiotherapists or dietitians when necessary.

Beyond fitness coaching, Personal Trainers must also develop business and marketing skills to build a loyal client base, making them an asset to gyms, leisure centres, and independent fitness businesses. With flexible working hours, including evenings and weekends, they ensure accessibility for a wide range of clients.

By employing a Personal Trainer apprentice, your organisation can invest in a motivated professional who contributes to client retention, business growth, and community well-being. This qualification is ideal for roles such as Gym Instructor, Health Coach, or Wellness Consultant.

For a full breakdown of the knowledge, skills, and behaviours covered in this qualification, please visit the Institute for Institute for Apprenticeships website.

Over a 12-month programme, learners develop the skills, knowledge, and behaviours required for the End-Point Assessment. This journey is supported by a blend of weekly online sessions and quarterly face-to-face visits, guided by a dedicated tutor. Learners will have access to online learning and support materials to assist with their weekly off-the-job training.

The programme includes classroom sessions, mentoring, off-site visits, and a structured 20% off-the-job training requirement. Learners must log evidence of learning activities that take place outside their regular work environment but contribute to their apprenticeship. The required training hours will be confirmed during enrolment.

At the Gateway stage, progress is reviewed to ensure readiness for the on-programme assessment. The End-Point Assessment takes place over a three-month period, during which learners will complete a one-hour presentation, submit a portfolio of evidence, and take part in a one-hour professional discussion to demonstrate their proficiency.
